Brady Elementary School

The Trinity/Brady Partnership in Education

Trinity UMC and Brady Elementary are Partners in Education through a program established by the Little Rock School District. Brady is located at 7915 West Markham in Little Rock’s Midtown area. It has approximately 440 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Trinity supports Brady in a variety of ways. Below are the major initiatives. For more information about the Partnership or to volunteer contact the church office or Georgiana Soderberg at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Volunteer as a Bulldog Buddy: serve as a reading or math “buddy” one hour a week with children in grades Kindergarten through 5th. Most volunteering is in the morning between 8:30 and 10:30 but some afternoon times between 12:00 and 2:00 are possible. Training is provided through the LRSD VIPS office and at the school.

Books for Brady: provide a brand new book for each child to take home as their very own. The book we provide may be the only one a child owns. Approximately 440 books are needed. The children will be allowed to choose their books from a group selected by the reading teachers. The books will be distributed in December.

Classroom adoption: three new classrooms have been added at Brady for the 2015-16 school year. These will need to be “adopted” by groups or individuals. This program provides a direct connection between a Brady classroom teacher and a member of Trinity’s congregation. Trinity folks stay in touch with the teacher to offer help if needed for Christmas and Valentine parties. They may assist in other ways as they desire. Frequently small gifts are given to the teacher in appreciation of their work in our community. Each relationship is forged in a slightly different way.

Uniforms: Brady students wear uniforms of collared polo-style shirts in any color with navy or khaki pants, shorts, or skirts. Trinity provides one new uniform to children in need of assistance. Gently-used uniforms are also provided when available. Approximately one-fourth of the students receive uniforms. Most are distributed at the beginning of the school year but uniforms are available whenever the need arises. Shoes and coats are sometimes also provided to especially needy students.

Supplies and backpacks: are provided at the beginning of the year to children in need. Often all supplies plus a backpack are given out. Other times only a few supplies are needed. As children move to Brady during the year these items are also available if needed.

Staff Appreciation: a committee of Trinity members provide staff treats several times a year, often in conjunction with holidays.

Thanksgiving Dinner: This is a new initiative for Trinity in 2015. The entire Brady family (staff, students, and family) will be hosted by the Trinity congregation at a Thanksgiving dinner the evening of Thursday, November 5. We are doing this as a way of showing appreciation to the staff and to bond with the families of the students. As a Methodist church we recognize that public education is a high priority in our community. In addition, we want to be in common mission with the staff and families at the school. This mission will result in strengthening our community as a whole both now and in the future.

Prayer: Trinity members are very generous with their time and financial resources in support of the Brady Partnership. As United Methodists we also support endeavors with our prayers. Remember to pray for the students, families, and staff of the school, that they may achieve all that God intends for them and that they feel His love surrounding them.

How Do Current Volunteers Feel About Their Work at Brady? Read what two Trinity members say:

"I enjoy reading with 3rd grade boys at Brady Elementary as part of the partnership with TUMC. The students look forward to my visit each week. We have developed strong bonds; they share stories about their lives and we often discuss current events. They are eager to show me that they can read well and I help them sound out new words early in each session so they can practice saying these new words as our 30 minute session progresses.  It is rewarding to see them learn new words and meanings. My time at Brady is most rewarding to me and to the students.”

Jim McClelland

"Reading each week at Brady Elementary is guaranteed to help you feel you are making a difference in a child's life. After a few weeks of getting to know a child, they look so forward to this special time together and so will you. Time may be spent reading (and noticing improvement), helping with class work or just visiting about subjects we can share.  Please consider taking ONE hour from your busy week to drive to Brady and experience a wonderful volunteer opportunity.”
